Norwegian trip-hop band Flunk, will be at Dorock XL.

Flunk first hit the airwaves with their downbeat version of New Order’s classic club anthem ’Blue Monday’ on legendary DJ John Peel’s show on BBC Radio 1 in autumn 2001.

The debut album, ’For Sleepyheads Only’, was released in April 2002. Versions were later released in the US and several other territories, it was selected album of the month in British DJ Mag and was the origin of the musical genre term ’folktronica’ – simply being ’chill-out’ with guitars.

Flunk started as an instrumental project. Ulf Nygaard, a pop star with platinum hits in native Norway, sat down with long time collaborator Jo Bakke, who added guitar to electronic tracks. In this process Anja, by coincidence, came by and jamming on a track or two swiftly became Flunk’s main voice.

This flying start of the band’s career was followed by inclusions on numerous collections, movies and TV series, touring in the US and Europe and releasing a follow-up album, ’Morning Star’, in 2004. Both albums enjoying indie success in the US.

‘Chemistry and Math’ is Flunk’s sixth studio album since starting off in Oslo in 2000.Since the beginning of 2013, Flunk have played live concerts will ’full band’ – guitars, bass, drums, vocals and electronics. They have played the SXSW in Austin, toured China, played sold out shows in cities like Istanbul and Prague and have a special connection to Poland.

Flunk have a following in all corners of the world, but have never charted in their native Norway.
